General Event Information

What is the purpose of the club?

The main purpose of the SXS Club of Australia Inc. is to provide SXS owners and enthusiasts unique and safe ride opportunities. The other goal of the club is to raise money for small regional charities in the areas we hold events.

What is a SXS (Side by Side) Club event?

SXS Club of Australia Inc. events are organised recreational rides for members using Side-by-Side vehicles (SXS/UTVs). These events allow members to explore unique locations across Australia including sand dunes, desert trails, race tracks and remote station country while riding in a safe, structured group environment.

When are these events?
Events are held over the cooler months (March-October) and are typically run over a weekend, often lunch time Friday to lunch time Sunday, giving you time to get home before work on Monday,  and include organised rides, camping or accommodation, and social time with fellow club members.

Do I need to be a member to attend an event?

Yes. All attendees must be signed up members of SXS Club of Australia Inc. before attending an event, however club membership is absolutely free. All participants must sign in with the event coordinators before unloading their buggy.

How much do events cost?

Standard event entry costs:
$220 per driver (per buggy)
$70 per additional participant aged 16+
$20 per participant under 16

These costs cover the event weekend. Accommodation, fuel, food and other costs are additional and are managed independently by each individual.

How do I register for an event?

Drivers must register and pay through the club website prior to the event. Additional passengers are typically paid in cash on arrival.

What types of events does the club run?

The club runs 2 main ride event styles:
- Camp Away Events (base camp with regular daily rides)
- Trail Ride Events (long guided rides through remote country)

What is the minimum age to attend?

There is no minimum age to attend, however, safety equipment and suitable seating is mandatory for all participants.

If I want to assist the club in some way, what can I do?

With part of our mandate being to raise money for small charities in the areas where we hold events, we encourage our members to make donations whenever possible to the club to help increase our end of year donation program.

I want the club to hold rides in my area, how can I help make that happen?

We are always on the lookout for potential event coordinators in new regions so if you are keen to help establish a new chapter of the SXS Club of Australia Inc. in your area, please contact the club President Mick Andrewartha by phone on 0407 795295 or via email at mick.andrewartha@gmail.com.

Safety & Riding Rules

What safety gear is required?

The following are mandatory whenever a buggy is moving:
- Helmet
- Eye protection
- Closed-in shoes

Is alcohol allowed during events?

Alcohol is allowed only after your final ride of the day. Participants must have zero alcohol in their system while operating a vehicle. Breath testing may occur onsite.

What happens if I miss a ride departure?

If the group has already left, stay at camp and wait for the next organised ride. Do not attempt to follow the group alone.

Are radios required?

UHF radios are strongly recommended and the channel will be advised before rides.

Vehicles & Equipment

What vehicles are allowed?

Events are designed for commercially manufactured Side-by-Side vehicles (SXS/UTVs) that are mechanically sound and suitable for off-road conditions. There is a list on the website of acceptable brands, but if your machine is not on the list you are encouraged to contact us and request it’s inclusion. The club encourages all brands of SXS.

Do I need to carry spare parts or tools?

Yes. Riders are encouraged to carry basic tools, spare parts and recovery equipment especially for remote trail rides.

Do I need to carry extra fuel?

This depends on the event. Some remote rides (mainly trail rides) require additional fuel due to distance and terrain such as soft sand conditions.

What happens if my vehicle breaks down?

If you experience an issue during a ride, pull over safely and the sweep rider will assist you. Other members may also assist where required and are encouraged to do so.

Do vehicles need to be registered?

No, as we are always on privately owned property.

Are modified vehicles allowed?

Yes, however overly loud machines are not ideal.

Are passengers allowed?

Absolutely, they are encouraged. We are all about family involvement.

Accommodation & Camping

What accommodation options are available?

Accommodation varies by event and may include camping, powered camping, station accommodation, roadhouse accommodation or remote camping.

Do I need to book accommodation?

If accommodation is provided by a station or roadhouse you typically must book your own accommodation directly with the property prior to the event, and you will be advised to do so.

Are facilities available at campsites?

Facilities vary by location and may include showers, toilets and camp kitchens. Some remote camps only provide basic toilet facilities.

Food & Supplies

Do events provide food?

No. Participants must bring their own food, drinks and cooking equipment unless they choose to purchase meals from nearby towns or roadhouses.

Do I need to bring drinking water?

Yes. Always bring sufficient drinking water for the entire event.

Communications

Is phone reception available?

Phone reception can be limited in remote areas. Some events may provide Starlink internet but riders should not rely on mobile service.

How do riders communicate during rides?

Communication is typically through UHF radios and ride briefings. All rides include regular stops for regrouping and information sharing.

Event Conduct

What behaviour is expected during events?

Members must respect other participants, property owners and follow ride leader instructions.

Why are property rules important?

All rides take place on private land and respecting property rules helps maintain future access to these riding areas.

Are these commercial tours?

No. These are club rides organised by volunteers and supported by members working together. Every member is required to chip in and help.

What happens if I misbehave at a club event?

Depending on the severity of the behavior, you and most likely your ride buddies will be asked to leave the event and will all potentially have your club membership revoked. The club has a zero-tolerance attitude towards poor behavior.
